OPERATION JUST CAUSE COMBAT MEDIC PAGE
December 20th 1989-January 30th 1990
This home page is a tribute to all of the combat medics who have served on the frontlines with their Infantry Brothers. No matter if you were a "dirty nasty leg" like myself or you brought "Death from above" this site is for all of us who served during Operation Just Cause. Just after midnight on December 20, 1989 the U.S. launched a massive attack on the Republic of Panama or, more correctly, on their dictator General Manuel Noriega and the Panamanian Defense Force. Using his army, the PDF, beefed up by U.S. funds and backed by corrupt local politicians, Noriega browbeat his opposition and thumbed his nose at the U.S. finally instructing his compliant assembly to declare itself at war with the USA. The U.S. responded in a dramatic fashion and achieved all of their objectives, including the capture of Noriega who was later indicted and convicted in Florida on drug trafficking charges. The American invasion, which drew 26,000 American troops against General Noriega's army, was the largest U.S. military operation since Vietnam and the largest ever to be undertaken against a normally friendly country. It was a complex operation involving Airborne and Air Assault troops from the States linking up in the darkness with on the ground Armored, Light Infantry and Special Ops units. More than 3000 Soldiers parachuted in-The biggest drop since World War Two. Main Units involved: US Army Special Ops Command Navy Seals The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Ranger Battalions XVIII Airborne Corp 7th ID (Light Fighters) 82nd Airborne Division 5th ID (Mech) 193rd Infantry Brigade 437th Military Airlift Wing 160th Special Ops Aviation Group (Apaches and Cobras) 1st Special Ops Command (Airborne) 528th Support Battalion (Airborne) US Marine Corps Air Force (AC-130 Spectre Gun Ships)
The objective: to protect American lives, maintain the security of the Panama Canal, restore democracy to Panama and to capture General Noriega and bring him to justice.
